ATEX

Z-Tech assist their clients with optimising their Ex asset performance by providing hazardous area inspections, remedial and installation work across a number of industries including water, power, oil, gas, pharmaceutical and manufacturing.

Our inspectors are CompEX certified in gas and dust and carry out ATEX inspections daily for a range of clients who may have a number of assets across a number of sites or a large site with a substantial number of assets. Our inspectors understand the potential dangers and ensure safe working practices are followed explicitly in hazardous areas to avoid any potential incident which could cause serious damage to property, person, reputation, and businesses.

Current legislation states that the time period between inspections should not exceed three years. Ensuring inspections are completed regularly can prevent failure of equipment and, in some cases, extend the lifetime of a piece of equipment.

The DSEAR (The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002) state that employers are required to control the risks to safety from fire, explosions and substances corrosive to metals. BS EN 60079 breaks down the standard to define the various areas of maintenance, repair and installation.

The DSEAR Regulations (Standard 7 & 11 specifically) were originally devised from the ATEX 99/92/EC, commonly known as 'ATEX 137' or the 'ATEX Workplace Directive', which is one half of the ATEX Directive and the European Directives for controlling explosive atmospheres. The second half of the ATEX Directive (previously ATEX 94/9/EC or ‘ATEX 95’) has been updated and is in force from April 2016, 2014/34/EU applies to the Ex Equipment.

Zoning of areas is vital to ensure that the correct level of protection is installed. Zone 0 – Zone 2, along with a ‘safe’ zone, all have varying requirements depending on the time in which the area is ‘hazardous’. Z-Tech fully understand each and every zone and can assess and recommend, install and inspect the most suitable equipment for each zone, ensuring a safe and compliant area.
