Mick’s Monthly

Z-Tech are best known for providing System Integration or Instrumentation services so what tends to get overlooked is the third (and equally important) piece of our jigsaw, Electrical.

So to redress the balance I decided to go and check out a job at Thames Water’s Mogden Sewage Treatment works for my Micks Monthly. Here we are solving some operational problems by retro fitting inverter drives in place of star delta starters that power three sludge centrifuges.

Use of the drives will mean that we can implement a different type of cleaning cycle which will prevent any sludge residue remaining in the machine after use and causing vibration problems on the next start up.

Considering the recent heat wave it was probably not the best time of year for Troy and his team of Greg and apprentice Tom to be pulling in and making off the 150mm 4 core SWA power cables indoors! Troy is a veteran of large diameter power cables, with plenty of 1000mm under his belt so some 150’s are just babies in his book.

I was really delighted with the excellent standard of work on this job -getting a retro fit job to turn out well is much harder than a new build in my opinion. With one drive already commissioned and the other two well underway I’m sure in a few more days we will have another very happy customer.

  • "The customer focus and flexibility of Z-Tech makes it easy for a water utility to deal with. When we have a large and complex programme to deliver, planning every detail can be a challenge. Working with Z-Tech means that we can maintain delivery, knowing that resources are available to pick up the loose ends."
